Akpabio Appoints New Chief of Staff: Key Leadership Changes in the Senate

In June 2023, Senator Godswill Akpabio, then President of the Nigerian Senate, appointed Chief Barrister Sylvester Okonkwo as his Chief of Staff and Saviour Enyiekere as Deputy Chief of Staff.

Chief Okonkwo, an alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, holds a Bachelor of Laws degree. Before his appointment, he was the CEO of Chinto Technologies Limited, an ICT and telecommunications company. He hails from Ojoto in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Deputy Chief of Staff Saviour Enyiekere is a graduate of the University of Calabar. He previously served as the Deputy Director General of the Godswill Akpabio Senatorial Campaign Organisation and was a two-term Executive Chairman of Ika Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State.

In July 2023, Chief Okonkwo began his duties with a blessing ceremony led by Canon Okoye, marking a significant start to his tenure.

Throughout his tenure, Chief Okonkwo has been involved in various activities, including commemorating the legacy of his late brother, renowned poet Christopher Okigbo, in September 2024.

As of December 2024, there have been no public announcements regarding changes to the Chief of Staff position in the Senate.
