The United Kingdom has refuted claims that its visa policies are harsh on Nigerians, emphasizing the strong and growing relationship between both nations.
According to Richard Montgomery, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, the UK has issued about 300,000 visas to Nigerians in recent years, making Nigeria one of the top beneficiaries of the UK’s post-Brexit migration rules.
This includes a notable increase in work visas, which have risen from about 10,000-20,000 annually to 80,000-90,000 in the last few years. Montgomery highlighted that Nigerian nationals now account for about 10% of all UK visas issued.
While acknowledging a decline in Nigerian students coming to the UK, he assured applicants that the visa approval rate remains high for those with proper documentation.
