After a tense standoff on Friday, where heavily armed police restricted movement around the Kano Emir’s Palace, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II called for calm and warned against escalating tensions.
The situation arose when police blocked his participation in a royal ceremony in Bichi, citing orders from higher authorities. Sanusi, speaking at the Jumu’at Mosque, urged his supporters to remain peaceful, emphasizing that patience is key to avoiding unnecessary violence and destruction.
He condemned efforts to provoke conflict in Kano, urging everyone to shun violence regardless of the circumstances. Despite the palace siege, which disrupted movement and left traditional leaders stranded, the reasons behind the police action remain unclear.
