NAF Eliminates Terrorist Commanders and Fighters in Lake Chad Basin.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully eliminated terrorist commanders and their foot soldiers in the Lake Chad Basin, following a series of air strikes in the Tumbuns area on November 23, 2024.
In addition to neutralizing the terrorists, the air raids also destroyed a key food depot used by the insurgents.
Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, NAF’s spokesperson, confirmed that the operation was made possible through extensive Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions.
These missions were conducted over several days and revealed the location of terrorist hideouts camouflaged beneath dense vegetation.
Akinboyewa explained that this strategic location had served as both a food storage site and a safe haven for terrorist commanders and fighters. Intelligence gathered earlier had linked this area to recent terrorist activities, including an assault on Nigerian troops in Kareto on November 16, 2024.
In response, NAF fighter jets carried out a targeted air strike, destroying terrorist structures and neutralizing several militants on the ground.
Additional mop-up operations were conducted using cannons to ensure the elimination of fleeing hostile elements.
The destruction of the terrorist enclave and its food storage facilities significantly disrupted their logistical operations, dealing a severe blow to their ability to plan and carry out future attacks.
This successful mission further reduces the capacity of these terrorists to threaten security in the region.
