The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Chris Musa, has commended the arrest of Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, as a pivotal move toward extraditing him to Nigeria.
This was revealed in a statement by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information.
According to the CDS, Ekpa’s detention by Finnish authorities offers hope for his return to Nigeria to face justice.
The Finnish district court in Lahti had earlier ordered Ekpa’s remand on probable charges of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent in Nigeria.
Ekpa has been accused of using social media to propagate separatist messages associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a group advocating for the secession of southeastern Nigeria.
