How the Crash Happened
According to Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), preliminary investigations revealed that the Lexus Jeep driver, who fled the scene, attempted to overtake another vehicle but suddenly spotted an oncoming truck.
In an attempt to return to his lane, he lost control and crashed into two fully loaded commercial buses.
Emergency Response
LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that officers swiftly secured the accident site in collaboration with security personnel from Area ‘N’ Police Division.
They managed traffic disruptions and coordinated the removal of the wrecked vehicles to restore normal movement on the highway.
“All injured passengers were immediately taken to Ikorodu General Hospital for urgent medical attention by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS),” Taofiq stated.
LASTMA’s Warning to Motorists
Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended his sympathies to the victims and wished them a quick recovery.
He urged drivers to exercise extreme caution, especially when overtaking, to prevent similar accidents.
“The government has placed road signs at strategic points to guide motorists. It is crucial for drivers to remain vigilant and ensure the road is clear before overtaking.
Reckless driving can have devastating consequences,” he warned.
Stay Safe on the Road
As Lagos roads continue to witness heavy traffic, authorities emphasize the need for strict adherence to traffic rules to protect lives and prevent avoidable accidents.
