52-Year-Old Man Slumps During Prayers in Abuja Mosque, Dies in Hospital

A 52-year-old man, Salihu Byezhe, has passed away after collapsing during Subhi (early morning) prayers at a mosque in Gudaba village, Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Incident During Morning Prayers

Eyewitnesses reported that the tragedy occurred on Thursday morning, shortly after Byezhe had finished eating Sahur (pre-dawn meal before fasting), performed ablution, and joined other worshippers for prayers.

According to Musa Dantani, a resident of Gudaba who witnessed the event, Byezhe suddenly slumped in the middle of the prayer.

“Prayers were ongoing when he collapsed. Some worshippers quickly rushed to his aid and took him to the hospital.

He was still breathing on the way, but unfortunately, he passed away upon arrival,” Dantani recounted.

Medical Report Confirms High Blood Pressure

A medical doctor in Kuje later confirmed Byezhe’s death, attributing it to high blood pressure.

Reports indicate that the deceased had been managing the condition for some time, and it may have spiked during the prayers.

One of Byezhe’s sons, who was present in the mosque at the time, accompanied those who rushed him to the hospital and was there when the doctor pronounced him dead.

His remains were buried at 10:12 AM on Thursday, following Islamic rites.
