Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has boldly reaffirmed his stance against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition, vowing to campaign against him if he contests in the 2027 elections.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Fayose did not mince words as he expressed deep dissatisfaction with the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) leadership choices, especially regarding the 2023 presidential ticket.
“I publicly worked against Atiku, and I am saying it again—for the second time—if Atiku comes again, I will work against him. It is time we learn our lesson,” Fayose stated emphatically.
According to him, the ongoing internal crisis rocking the PDP is rooted in the party’s failure to adhere to its zoning principle. He criticized the decision to field a Northern candidate after eight years of Northern leadership, arguing that power should have been shifted to the South.
“After eight years of a Northerner, it should have been the South’s turn—whether from the East, South West, or South South,” Fayose insisted. “The people who returned power to the North created all these issues.”
The outspoken PDP chieftain also stressed the importance of upholding a power rotation agreement, even if unwritten, to maintain unity and fairness within the party.
“You don’t have to like Nyesom Wike or Peter Obi, but there should be a respected gentleman’s understanding when it comes to power shift,” he added.
Fayose’s declaration is expected to ignite fresh debates within the PDP as the party strategizes for future elections while grappling with persistent internal disagreements.
