The 2027 general election may still be two years away, but the All Progressives Congress (APC) is already calling it a “done deal.” With high-profile defections shaking the political landscape, the ruling party says its grip on power is only getting stronger.
The APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, on Thursday, confidently stated that the 2027 elections are already in the bag for the party. This bold claim came as he welcomed a new wave of defectors from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), led by Senator Kawu Ismaila, representing Kano South.
Addressing party members and the press in Abuja, Ganduje emphasized that the APC is not only gaining momentum from these defections but is also strategically expanding its influence across the country.
“We believe in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership. His economic reforms and Renewed Hope Agenda are reshaping Nigeria,” Ganduje said. “The political aspect of that hope is the continuous increase in our party’s followership.”
He pointed to recent developments like the defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, along with his entire cabinet, state lawmakers, and federal representatives, as clear signs of the APC’s growing dominance. According to Ganduje, these political shifts are only the beginning.
“In places where elections are approaching, we are confident that APC will emerge victorious. More governors from opposition parties are joining us very soon,” he revealed.
The wave of new members from Kano includes notable names such as Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurmum (House of Representatives), Hon. Abdullahi Sani Rogo, Rt. Hon. Zubairu Hamza Massu (Kano State House of Assembly), Dr. A.B. Baffa Bichi (former Secretary to the State Government), and several other seasoned politicians and former lawmakers.
After a private strategy session with the new joiners, Ganduje reiterated the APC’s readiness for future polls: “I don’t want to give away our full game plan, but what I’m telling Nigerians is this—2027 is already a done deal for the APC.”
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Senator Kawu praised the unity and shared values within the APC, calling the move a “coming together of likeminds.” He also challenged doubters to revisit the 2023 election results where he ran against NNPP leader Rabiu Kwankwaso in the same polling units.
“Look at the results from those elections—presidential, senatorial, and House of Reps. Our numbers speak for themselves,” Kawu said confidently.
The APC is clearly making strategic moves to solidify its hold ahead of 2027. With more governors reportedly set to switch allegiance, and key political figures already aligning with the party, Nigeria’s political terrain is headed for a significant transformation.
