As political activities heat up ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, a fresh controversy has erupted between the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the fate of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
On Monday, NNPP’s Osun State Chairman, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, publicly criticized Adeleke’s administration, claiming it lacks focus and prioritizes personal interests over meaningful development for the people of Osun.
“Osun deserves a leader who truly understands governance and can put aside political bias to serve the people selflessly,” Odeyemi declared. He also called on opposition parties to unite and present a formidable candidate in the next election, warning that failure to do so could derail the state’s growth.
But the PDP didn’t take those comments lightly.
In a swift reaction, the PDP, through its Director of Media and Publicity, Oladele Bamiji, accused Odeyemi of lacking the political depth to judge the performance of Governor Adeleke.
Backing their position with facts, the PDP highlighted some of Adeleke’s achievements, including the completion of over 200 kilometers of roads, Osun’s first-ever flyover in Ilé-Ifè, and major road expansion projects in Osogbo.
They also pointed to the clearing of salary arrears running into billions of naira, the introduction of free health insurance for pensioners and people with disabilities, and the renovation of over 200 primary health centers across the state.
“If Odeyemi refuses to recognize these accomplishments, then clearly he is being blinded by political bitterness,” the party stated.
The PDP reaffirmed its faith in the people’s support, saying Adeleke remains focused on delivering impactful projects and won’t be distracted by political noise.
With the 2026 elections drawing closer, the political atmosphere in Osun is becoming more charged as both PDP and NNPP gear up for what promises to be a fierce electoral battle.
