In a surprising turn of events, a 20-year-old man identified as Umar Auwal, also known by the alias ‘Abba Dujal,’ has voluntarily handed himself over to the Kano State Police Command. Auwal, a resident of Wudil Local Government Area in Kano, confessed to multiple violent crimes spanning Kano and parts of Jigawa State.
According to SP Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesperson for the Kano Police Command, the suspect’s decision to surrender followed a series of intense police operations aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts across the state. These efforts, Kiyawa said, are part of the force’s mission to restore peace and protect lives and property in the region.
During his confession, Auwal admitted to committing several murders and robberies. He recounted stabbing a man known as ‘Boka’ in Sabon Gari Quarters, Kano, before stealing his Infinix Hot 40i smartphone, which he later sold for N40,000. He also confessed to killing another victim in Kurna Quarters and stealing a Samsung S26 phone, which he sold for N160,000.
In Jigawa State, Auwal admitted to killing a man in Ringim Local Government Area and selling the victim’s motorcycle for N300,000.
The suspect is currently in custody at the Homicide Section of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where further investigations are underway. Police are working to verify his claims and uncover any other possible crimes or accomplices.
Commissioner of Police in Kano, CP Ibrahim Bakori, praised the suspect’s surrender and called on other criminals to take similar steps. He emphasized the command’s commitment to ridding the state of crime and urged residents to continue providing useful information to help security agencies keep communities safe.
