The Joint Task Force South-East, operating under “Operation UDO KA,” has successfully neutralized 13 armed members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and arrested three kidnappers in the South-East region.
According to a statement released by the task force’s spokesperson, Lt. Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, the operations are part of the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the region during the festive season. He emphasized the importance of public cooperation, urging citizens to report any suspicious activities to aid in the security efforts.
The Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Hassan Dada, reiterated the call for continued support from the public, emphasizing that security is everyone’s responsibility. He urged South-East citizens to use the JTF’s toll-free line (193, Option 2) for direct communication with the task force.
In operational details, Lt. Col. Unuakhalu reported that on December 21, troops from Sector 1 conducted an ambush along Amouka-Umouka Road in Enugu State, successfully confronting a group of kidnappers. The operation led to the neutralization of one kidnapper, with others fleeing the scene with gunshot wounds. Items recovered included an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, 17 rounds of ammunition, and several personal belongings.
Additionally, on December 16, Sector 5 troops carried out a clearance operation in Mbosi and Isseke areas of Anambra State, where they neutralized three IPOB members. During this operation, an AK-47 rifle, Dane guns, and improvised explosive devices were seized, and a house used by one of the group’s commanders was destroyed.
On December 14, troops acting on credible intelligence arrested three suspected kidnappers in the Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State. The suspects, who were operating a stolen tricycle, attempted to evade capture but were apprehended. Items recovered included firearms, ammunition, and a variety of personal belongings.
These operations are part of the ongoing efforts to ensure that the South-East remains safe and secure, especially as the holiday season approaches. The military urges the public to continue supporting the efforts by providing timely and credible information.
