Kidnap victims rescued in Zamfara as 128 people regain freedom from bandits’ camps. They received medical care before reuniting with families.
In a major breakthrough against insecurity, the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has handed over 128 kidnapped victims rescued from bandits’ camps in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State to the state government.
The victims comprising men, women, children, and even a newborn delivered shortly after rescue were freed in two separate phases of coordinated security operations this August.
Unfortunately, the joy of freedom was tempered by tragedy, as one child could not survive the harsh conditions of captivity. 💔
According to officials, the victims underwent immediate medical care and psychological support in Abuja before being reunited with their loved ones.
The handover ceremony was presided over by the National Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, Maj. Gen. Adamu Laka, who reaffirmed government’s commitment to tackling terrorism and banditry head-on.
Speaking during the event, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, commended the rescue teams for their courage and reassured Nigerians that no effort will be spared in securing communities across the country.
For families in Zamfara, this rescue marks both a moment of relief and a painful reminder of the human cost of insecurity.
Many survivors will require long-term care, healing, and reintegration after months in captivity.
As Zamfara and other northern states continue to battle the scourge of kidnapping, the government has called for increased vigilance, intelligence sharing, and community support to curb the menace.
